This is a question I hear all of the time. Most of the sources online will point you to the path on the MAC, but lest they forget, there are still PC users out there! 
You can find the path to your iPhone backup files on Windows 7 at:
~\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

I have backed up my iPhone and restored on multiple occasions, each time being annoyed that the apps I had installed on my phone were erased. This became such a point of frustration for me that I eventually stopped syncing my phone and have been void of music for a couple of months now.
After thinking about it today, I thought that there had to be a way to copy my iPhone applications to iTunes from my iPhone without having to manually download them again from iTunes. It’s actually quite simple, and I’m kicking myself now for not finding it sooner.
The solution is as easy as right clicking on your iPhone (or iPod touch) in iTunes and clicking Transfer Purchases.

How is this possible you ask? Magic? Witchcraft? Positive Thinking? Actually, it’s an open source project called Gordon. Gordon is an open source Flash™ runtime written in pure JavaScript. If embeded into the html page correctly, Gordon enables the iPhone to render the swf content using JavaScript.
So what does this mean for the average iPhone user? Not much, really. It does give a glimmer of hope that we might see a full force version of Flash on the iPhone sooner rather than later, but Gordon doesn’t do much for the average iPhone user just yet.
Flash developers, however, will be able to use Gordon to embed their flash movies in a way that can at least be displayed on the iPhone. At this time, iPhone users will probably not run across any flash that is embedded using Gordon.
It’s a step in the right direction, but shame on you Apple for forcing the developer community to this.

I’ve decided to put together an occasional iPhone app review. This is the first, so hang in there, hopefully they will improve over time.
Gowalla is one of the most interesting apps I have seen on the iPhone to date. It has single handedly held my attention for the last two days straight.
The concept is simple:
1) Share your experiences through Gowalla with your Facebook & Twitter friends
2) Stamp your passport and earn rewards at the places that you visit
3) Discover and create locations anywhere in the world with your iPhone
I would review this app as iPhone crack… if you don’t want to be totally addicted, this app isn’t for you.
